About Me – 私について

Hello everyone, and welcome to my blog! みなさん、こんにちは。私のブログへようこそ!

I’m Carita, a 44-year-old gardening maniac from Finland. My main passions are books, nature and slow life in the countryside. I share my existence with a husband and 11-year-old dog Lulu; they both are my mentors in life, giving me daily lessons about kindness and how to cherish the little joys that the world has to offer.

My passion for Japan began with Sujata Massey’s Rei Shimura series, and after the first trip to Osaka, there was no turning back. Kansai food, traditional ryokan’s mysterious atmosphere, and not to mention the endless kindness of the people made me fell in love with the country from the day one.

In everything, no matter what it may be, uniformity is undesirable. Leaving something incomplete makes it interesting and gives one the feeling that there is room for growth.

Several journeys later, at the age of forty, I signed up for an exchange student programme and headed for Chiba prefecture. This time my mission was to survive while working in a Japanese gardening company. From those experiences emerged my first book Gambatte!, and while writing it, a bigger dream started to take shape: Could I publish a Japanese book? So after Gambatte! was released, I packed my bags and went back to Japan to get more material for the Japanese volume.

案ずるより行くが易し (Anzuru yori yuku ga yasushi) was published in 2019 as an E-book. This blog follows those journeys mainly with pictures, and some other events as well. I wanted to post articles with both languages, and to do that I use translators. I hope many people can find joy through my experiences!

Thank you! ありがとうございました!
